Gmail Add-ons Are a New Way to Work with Business Apps Directly in Gmail

Google has a number of features built into Gmail including unique themes, different layouts and an entire Labs section with a dozen different experimental options to help you customize your Gmail experience. To expand on this, the company has just launched what they're calling Gmail Add-ons as a new way to work with your select business applications directly within Gmail. This feature was made available earlier this year as a developer preview but is now available to everyone from the gear icon in Gmail.

The goal here is to enable integration with various business applications directly from within Gmail so you don't have to leave the application or web browser to complete a task on another service. So not only does this make things faster but it also makes certain tasks much more convenient as well. The only drawback right now is that the Gmail Add-ons feature is launching with only a limited number of partners but hopefully this is expanded in the future.

In my personal Gmail account I currently have 10 different Gmail Add-ons to choose from including Hire, Dialpad, QuickBooks Invoicing, RingCentral for Gmail, ProsperWorks CRM, Trello, Smartsheet, Streak CRM, Asana, and lastly Wrike. So if you're familiar with any of these services then you'll definitely want to check out the new add-on that is available for Google's email service. They vary from creating and managing tasks, to messaging to dialing contacts, creating and send professional invoices and more.

The blog post from Google also mentions an 11th Gmail Add-on for DocuSign, but they were unable to get things ready for launch. With it, you'll be able to sign and execute contracts, agreements, and other documents without leaving Gmail. We weren't told when DocuSign would be made available though, only that it would be "coming soon."
