Samsung Bixby is currently the worst voice assistant available in any smart phone. It has its uses, but it is slow and bad at voice recognition. The Korean Herald was told by Gary G. Lee, the new head of AI at Samsung Research, a lot of previously unknown information on Bixby 2.0.
Lee confirmed that Bixby 2.0 will be launching with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The 2.0 update will upgrade the natural language processing, noise resistance capabilities, and will increase response times. Currently, you have to be very specific about what you ask Bixby to do. For example, to ask a question you need to say "talk to Q&A" then ask the question. Bixby 2.0 should improve upon this by better understanding what you are asking.

Samsung is also adding Viv to Bixby 2.0. Viv is an AI created by one of the founders of Siri before it was purchased by Apple. This should be a major upgrade on top of Bixby. It will allow for developers to add more integration into Bixby. Viv should be released to Samsung phones at first as part of Bixby, but then spread to more devices after. You can watch a talk given by Adam Cheyer, one of the co-founders of Viv. This talk was given at Scale 2017 hosted at University of Southern California. He goes in-depth about how Viv works and more on when it was supposed to be released.
On the Galaxy Note 9 side, Lee did not confirm anything but the name of the product. It is currently in the software and hardware development phase. While checking the Samsung build servers, we were able to find a software build number of N960USQE0ARED. This means that the phone is still in a very early software development phase. One thing we've heard is Samsung will finally include an in-display fingerprint scanner. From another source, it was confirmed that the Note 9 will launch with Android Oreo.
Hopefully, these updates will make it back to the older Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note 8 along with the Galaxy S9/S9+. These updates will make a great addition to a pretty terrible voice assistant. Hopefully, that button will be useful at some point.
